Kattenes
is so centrally located that you can easily reach all attractions of
the lower Moselle area. Especially recommended is a visit to the Eltz
Castle, a castle located only a few miles from Kattenes and known for
its interesting history and its perfect unrestored condition inside and
out.
The region is known for its limitless hiking
possibilities. Many castle ruins may be explored, canyons can be hiked
and the trails along the Mosel valley rim offer a beautiful view.
Tip:
Look for old water mills when you are hiking. They are usually in
beautiful places and quite a few have been turned into small
restaurants that cater to hikers. Kattenes itself is known for its
“valley of the 13 mills”. Of these water mills 12 still exist, one
almost on top of the other in a very steep side valley leading up to
the plateau.
In total there must be a hundred water mills within
hiking distance of Kattenes. Some are quite remote, some are restored
and some are in ruins. All are worth to be looked at.
You
can also use our bicycles to explore the area on the bicycle routes
along the Mosel. You can ride through tunnels on abandoned railroad
tracks turned into bicycle paths.
We are registered as a bicycle friendly Hotel in the German Bicycle Club (ADFC).
MS-Goldstück:
For
a romantic Moselle cruise the tour ship “MS-Goldstück” is well suited.
Especially attractive are the evening cruises with music.
